Review | Twilight Spa Package at Park Plaza Cardiff.

If there's one thing every girl needs to treat herself to once in a while it's a spa day. A night of pampering and relaxation to ease away tension and relieve stress is always welcomed, so when I was invited to Cardiff Park Plaza's beauty bloggers' spa evening at their Laguna Health Spa I jumped at the chance! It felt like something that was so desperately needed at the time, as I was in the middle of coursework hell and Dan had just jetted off for two months to New Zealand, and I'm pleased to report it definitely worked a treat!

I was invited to try out the Laguna Health Spa's Twilight Supper and Spa Package. This is a spa package that is only available after 4pm from Sunday-Friday and involves use of the spa facilities, a 25 minute treatment, plus a two-course meal at the Laguna Kitchen and Bar, all for £59. As I'm currently studying full-time in university, and with the start of my career (hopefully) just on the horizon, it's hard to find time to fit in any pampering sessions and to take a day off work specifically for one, so for me this is the perfect excuse to grab your girlfriends and indulge! I met Briley and Georgia outside and we headed in for an evening of luxury.

The pool area is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day.
Cardiff's Park Plaza is pretty gorgeous if you haven't been before. The foyer area is filled with cosy armchairs and warm fireplaces so you can sit down and have a chat, and the staff are really friendly and happy to help. We were shown to the spa and health suite, which comes complete with spa rooms, a relaxation room, a gym and swimming pool, before answering some health questionnaires and being given our slippers and robes.

The Twilight package comes with the option of four different treatments, but as we had some time beforehand we decided to head to the pool for a dip first. The pool area was lovely. It was really clean and quiet, with a spa bath and steam room if you weren't keen on breastroking up and down the pool. The first thing I noticed was how it felt like you were in a calm sanctuary, perhaps out in the countryside somewhere, and not in the heart of Wales' busiest city. The windows that ran along one side of the pool were hidden by trees, meaning the busy roads just outside city hall were hidden and there was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed chilling in the jacuzzi before heading up to the relaxation room before treatment.

The Laguna Spa uses Elemis products for that luxurious spa experience.
The treatment was something I was really excited for. I opted for the Laguna Express Back Massage (although a facial, manicure and pedicure were also available) and was taken through to a quiet treatment room by my therapist, whom I believe was called Elin. She checked through my health questionnaire and asked if I had any particular areas I wanted her to work on, before leaving me to change and settle down on the bed. The room itself was really nice. It was dimly lit with soft music and smelled delicious. Anyone else just love that spa smell? If they sold "the spa smell" in a bottle I would buy some in an instant and spritz it all around my home!

As for the treatment - let's just say it was amazing! So good in fact, that I almost fell asleep, which is slightly embarrassing when the therapist starts talking to you at the end of the treatment and you just lie there in a dazed heap! It really was fantastic though and I could really feel the treatment working, although it wasn't too hard, just enough pressure to get rid of the knots and tension in my upper back and neck without leaving me in any pain or discomfort. What's more, Laguna Spa uses Elemis products, which are some of my favourites. The oil smelled gorgeous and really sunk into the skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth, and the ice/freeze product used afterwards was really light and refreshing, so as to soothe any muscles that had been worked on. I can honestly say it's up there with one of the nicest treatments I've had, and I will definitely be going back for more!

Taking some time out in the relaxation room after my treatment.
After the treatment I spent time chilling in the relaxation room before heading down to change for dinner. I really loved the space, which was lit by tiny tea lights and included several beds for spa users to take time to unwind before and after their treatment. It was also very spacious, so you didn't feel as though you were intruding in anyone's personal (or spiritual) space. You could just relax in peace.

I was really looking forward to trying out some of the food at the Laguna Bar and Kitchen, as it was somewhere I hadn't dined before. I didn't actually realise it was a place that anyone, not just guests, could use. We all sat down in the bar for cocktails beforehand, and it was a really nice way to get to know the girls (including the lady behind the whole event, Jade) before settling down to eat. I opted for the strawberry daiquiri, but the other girls got a gin cocktail which was the size of a fishbowl and is something that the Laguna Bar changes up every week to keep fresh. It was so nice to sit down and chat, and having just a small group of us made it a really intimate affair so you got to know people on a more personal, rather than blogging, level. We all commended the event on how relaxed it was, and how we were made to feel like paying guests, rather than bloggers who were there just to report on the event. We really were treated like luxury!

Delicious chocolate fondant - serious food porn!
Now for one of the best parts of the evening - the food. I can't remember the last time I ate a meal so tasty. It really was divine! The Twilight Spa Package comes with a two-course meal from a set menu, and admittedly I was a little worried as I can be such a fussy eater, but there was something for everyone and I had no problems picking out my options. The menu itself is changed on a daily basis, with meals picked out exclusively by the chef, but it's sure to include a chicken, fish and (of course) veggie option.

As we were sampling the menu, we were lucky enough to be treated to three courses so I opted for the vegetable soup of the day to start, and a chicken in red wine sauce and potato main, before being tempted into a chocolate fondant with delicious nutty ice cream for dessert. I can still remember how good it tastes now. The food was cooked to absolute perfection and I would go back for dinner there in a heartbeat. The next time I have a special even on in Cardiff I will definitely be going back. Psst! The chef has even cooked for the queen!!

I have to say the blogging event at Park Plaza was one of the best I've been to yet. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everybody and the way we were treated was incredible. The spa treatment was wonderful, the food was delicious and I really can't fault our time there at all. If you're looking for a spa package that will help you relax after a hectic day in work, or if you're in need of a girly catch up with a friend you haven't seen in a while, even if you fancy a Sunday afternoon treat, then the Twilight Package is the one for you!

Which spa should I try next?
Lots of love,
Jessie. xoxo
