The importance of enjoying a little self-love this Valentine's Day.

Whether you're single, in a relationship, newly engaged or happily married, I can't express how important it is to indulge in a little self-love this Valentine's Day, and at any time of the year in fact. Us "millennials" are always so busy. Working hard all week, taking on extra tasks in order to boost our career prospects, working out, spending time with friends on the weekend and constantly engrossed in social media. Sometimes you need to switch off, zone out and completely take time to think about yourself
The ways in which I do this are simple. I take time out by going for long walks in the countryside, with nothing but the pitter patter of my dogs' feet and the squawking of a red kite overhead to accompany my thoughts. I enjoy going to the gym, music blasting through my headphones, pushing myself to the limit and ridding my mind of the stress of the working day. I love having a piping hot shower and taking the time to indulge in a little pamper session, giving myself a fresh pedi and applying a thick layer of sweet smelling body butter onto my freshly-washed skin. I also love sitting in bed with my candles burning, listening to the wind howling and the rain beating against the window panes as I'm all snuggled up.

The time in which I make to do these things is often few and far between. While I always make time to work out, I usually find that I head straight home from the gym to have a quick shower and sit with my computer, working on job applications and blog posts late into the night, until I'm so tired that my eyes are watering and I can barely drag myself to bed. Or I'm sat at my computer desk all day, working through my lunch break, and am left feeling grouchy when all it would take would be a quick stroll in the sunshine to lift my mood.

I'm determined that 2017 will be the year of change for me, and I'm taking any chance to indulge in a little self-love and to take really good care of myself. After pushing myself to absolute extremes last year, whilst studying for my Masters and interning and living away in London, I was left feeling deflated. Incredibly proud that I'd achieved so much in twelve short months and had learned so much about myself and the world in the process, of course; but also completely exhausted, very tired and in dire need of some time out.

I'm sure many of you feel the exact same way too, so let's make a pledge to take an hour or so each day to do something for ourselves. This could be something as simple as a kicking ass in a workout class, or popping to Tesco to pick up some gorgeous new blooms to brighten up your workspace. It could be cooking a deliciously wholesome meal to enjoy with your partner, or sitting on the couch with a book and  fluffy blanket, getting completely lost in the story.

No matter how big or small, take a little time out to do something for you this Valentine's Day.

Lots of love. xoxo

  5. It's definitely good to force yourself to have a break from the virtual world - easier said than done I know, especially on cold days when it's tempting to just have lunch at your desk. But you end up feeling so much more refreshed and recharged after.

I guess it's hard juggling blogging with full time work and trying to have a social life. You can burnout easily though if you don't take a moment for yourself to just relax and chill, so I totally agree with this post.
